Apricorn Aegis Secure Key
Quick Start Guide
Thank you for purchasing the Apricorn Aegis Secure Key. The Aegis
Secure Key works by simply entering your desired 7-15 digit PIN directly onto
the onboard keypad. The Aegis Secure Key can then be connected to any
USB port on any computer. Should the drive be lost or stolen, the user can
rest assured that all data held on the Aegis Secure Key is safe and cannot
be accessed by any unauthorized third party
The full manual is located on the Aegis Secure Key. We recommend that you
unlock the Key and download the manual first before making any changes.

Introduction
Unlocking the Key
1. Press the Key button
2. Within 10 seconds enter the User PIN
(Factory default PIN: 1-1-2-2-3-3-4-4)
3. Press the Key button will blink for a correct PIN entry
will blink for an incorrect PIN entry
4. Connect the Aegis Secure Key to a
USB port within 30 seconds will be on

5. To lock the Aegis Secure Key, Unplug
it from the USB port.
Even though the Aegis Secure Key can be used straight out of the box with the
default PIN 1-1-2-2-3-3-4-4, we highly recommend that a new User PIN is
configured immediately by following instructions below, for security reasons.
Changing your PIN code
1. Press the Key button
2. Within 10 seconds enter the User PIN
and press the Key button
(Factory default PIN: 1-1-2-2-3-3-4-4)
4. Enter a new PIN number
And press the Key button
6. Re-enter the new PIN number
and press the Key button

Note: The batteries are not fully charged when you receive your Aegis Secure
Key. The battery should be charged prior to first use. Please plug in the Key to a
powered USB port for 90 minutes to fully charge your battery

How do I use the Aegis Padlock DT the first time?
What if I forget the User PIN?
Use your Admin PIN to enter Admin Mode, and then create another User PIN in
Admin Mode.
NOTE: If you forget or lose your ADMIN PIN there is no way to access
the drive. Even an Apricorn employee will be unable to help you access
your data. In the event that this happens, the only way to use the drive
is to do a complete reset, which will reset the encryption key making all
data on the drive unrecoverable.
See the Chapter “Completely Resetting your Aegis Padlock DT” for
instructions.
Before the Padlock DT can be used, the Admin PIN MUST be set. The LED will display
Solid
BLUE
and Solid
GREEN
to indicate the Padlock is waiting for a PIN to be set.
To Set-up the Admin PIN:
1. Press UNLOCK + 9. The LED will change to Solid
BLUE
and Blinking
GREEN
.
2. Enter the new Admin PIN and press UNLOCK key. If accepted the

flash for three short blinks, then return to Solid

3. Re-enter the Admin PIN and press the UNLOCK key. If accepted the
GREEN
LED
will be Solid for three seconds.
4. LED will then turn

and remain in Admin mode for 30 seconds or if the Cancel

key is pressed, will return the drive to a standby state.
5. The Admin PIN is now set and will allow access to the drive or the Admin features.
6. To UNLOCK

the drive, exit Admin by pressing the Cancelol button. Then enter the
new PIN and press UNLOCK.
*Note: PINs must be a minimum length of 7 maximum 16 digits.
Cannot contain all consecutive numbers (2345678 or 9876543)
Cannot contain all same number (1111111)
